Today: Psalms 59:9-17; John 6:60-71; John 7:1-13; Judges 12 & 13
Psalm 59
“My God in His faithfulness will meet me.” Psalms 59:10
It is too easy to let all today’s negative news sweep us into worry and fear. But we don’t have to go there. We can be confident that our Almighty God IS in control, no matter how things might look to us on the ground. God’s view is 300 miles high; His plan covers the ENTIRE story, including all of eternity! While we only see the tiniest part. God is our true refuge. He IS faithful and He WILL meet us. He IS triumphant ALWAYS. His enemies have already lost. All of their “curses and lies” will be destroyed “so that they will no longer exist, so that people may know that God rules in Jacob, to the ends of the earth.” (v.13)
“But as for me, I will sing of Your strength; yes, I will joyfully sing of Your faithfulness in the morning, for You have been my refuge and a place of refuge on the day of my distress. My strength, I will sing praises to You; for God is my refuge, the God who shows me favor.” Psalms 59:16-17

John 6
“Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life. And we have already believed and have come to know that You are the Holy One of God.” John 6:68-69
People loved rockstar Jesus. They loved when He healed people, and when He fed them, and turned water into wine. They even kinda’ enjoyed his quirky stories.
But when Jesus tried to take them deeper, to delve past their immediate physical situation into the eternal, they left Him in droves… “many of His disciples left, and would no longer walk with Him.” (v.66)
They were just like people today! They wanted entertainment, fast food, and drink… but don’t start preaching or we’re outa’ here!
It can get discouraging sometimes.
Thank God, there is always a remnant. Then and now, there has always been a handful of believers threading us together throughout all of human history… spiritually hungry people who see beyond their temporary physical circumstance, those who feel God’s call on their life, people like Simon Peter, to whom God has revealed that Jesus is the “Holy One of God,” who has “the words of eternal life.” We know that there really is nowhere else to go.
