Today: Psalms 89:9-13; Romans 9:1-21; Hosea 11:12; Hosea 12, 13 & 14
Psalms 89
GOD IS SOVEREIGN!!! I cannot shout it loud enough. HE, ONLY HE, is the ruler of the universe. He is in charge of EVERYTHING. No one is like Him.
“For who in the skies above can compare with the LORD? Who is like the LORD among the heavenly beings? In the council of the holy ones God is greatly feared; He is more awesome than all who surround Him.” Psalms 89:6-7
God rules over the surging sea and stills the waves. He scatters His enemies with His strong arm. The heavens and the earth belong to Him. He “founded the world and all that is in it.” He “created the north and the south.” His “arm is endowed with power.” (v.10-13)
Yet He knows each one of us personally and loves us!
And so “I will sing of the LORD’s great love forever; with my mouth I will make [His] faithfulness known through all generations. I will declare that [His] love stands firm forever!” (v.1-2)
Romans 9
“God has mercy on whom He wants to have mercy, and He hardens whom He wants to harden.” Romans 9:18
I will not alter my message about God to make it more palatable to 21st century ears. Predestination IS true. But so is free will. BOTH are simultaneously true. God’s universe is bigger than our small human brains can understand.
“But who are you, a human being, to talk back to God? Shall what is formed say to the one who formed it, ‘Why did you make me like this?'” (v.20)
Hosea 14
The book of Hosea ends with God pleading: “Return, Israel, to the LORD your God. Your sins have been your downfall! Take words with you and return to the LORD. Say to Him, ‘Forgive all our sins and receive us graciously, that we may offer the fruit of our lips.” (v.22)
God is saying the same to US now. If we will return to God, He promises, “I will heal their waywardness and love them freely. For my anger has turned away from them.” (v.4)
