Amos

Amos wasn’t anybody special. He was just a shepherd from the town of Tekoa.

But God gave him a vision…

God was preparing to send judgment on Israel and her neighbors. And as He usually does before He makes a big move, God brought in the prophets to warn of the impending catastrophe, including a little lowly shepherd named Amos.

Why does God do this? Two reasons…

First, in His mercy, God wants to give people opportunity to repent and turn back to Him. Sometimes they do and when they do He sometimes withholds judgment (like Nineveh in the book of Jonah).

Second, when the calamity comes, God wants to make sure we know WHO did it and WHY it happened. So He warns about it BEFORE it takes place. Only if we understand WHY will we be able to repent and change. Only if we know WHO will we understand His power and mightiness.

God is doing that same thing RIGHT NOW. All over the world, God is raising up prophets and giving people visions, words, and dreams to warn us of things that are getting ready to happen. God works BIG. He is working through the big guys, the Elijahs and Isaiahs (people like Dutch Sheets, Robin Bullock, Amanda Grace, Dana Coverstone, Kim Clement (deceased), Hank Kunneman). And He works small… through the little Amoses and Jonahs (like me and YOU!).

The vision God gave Amos is also a message for us. It is the same message He is giving our prophets TODAY.

Amos’ vision started with Israel’s evil neighbors who had committed atrocities and persecuted the Israelites. Today this is the institutions around the world committing all the same atrocities and persecuting God’s children, the deep state players, rogue nations, evil governments, child traffickers, prostitution empires, and drug lords who take “captive whole communities” and “slaughtered the women of the land,” and the abortion industry that “ripped open the pregnant women…” (v.13)  Judgment is coming. He’s tearing it all down.

Next God dealt with Judah and Israel. Today it is our Christian church… “because they have rejected the law of the LORD and have not kept His decrees, because they have been led astray by false gods.” (v.2:4) Even within our churches “they sell the innocent for silver, the needy for a pair of sandals. They trample on the heads of the poor as on the dust of the ground and deny justice to the oppressed. Father and son use the same girl and so profane [God’s] holy name.” (v.2:6-8)

Our Christian church today has been infiltrated with sin, greed, sexual immoralities, hypocrisies, idolatry, even human trafficking.

Not ALL of us. Millions of us are humbly on our knees praying for our world, begging God for mercy. We know. God knows. And He is raising up His prophets to warn us, church! He’s giving us an opportunity to repent of our sins and return to Him. The good news is that it’s not too late to change our ways, to change His mind. Please LISTEN, CHURCH!

And if we don’t, here is what He says is coming…

“‘Now then, I will crush you as a cart crushes when loaded with grain. The swift will not escape, the strong will not muster their strength, and the warrior will not save his life. The archer will not stand his ground, the fleet-footed soldier will not get away, and the horseman will not save his life. Even the bravest warriors will flee naked on that day.'” declares the LORD.” Amos 2:13-16
