Craig and I are prodigal Christians. Be both lived our own way without God for many years. We did a lot of bad things and made many terrible choices that hurt others and hurt ourselves. God saved us both in amazing, miraculous ways. We KNOW how bad we are without God. We KNOW we don’t deserve God’s mercy and forgiveness. We carry in our hearts a deep thankfulness that God reached down and saved us from ourselves.

Sin is our default position. That natural state of sin must be put to death so that our souls can live in communion with Christ. We do this by embracing Christ’s death on the cross and resurrection. The more we focus on Christ, the more the Holy Spirit will make us become like Him. We will know this is taking place when our desire to do sinful things grows less and less.

Judgment is certainly coming, church. God is speaking through His prophets all over the world. Only God knows His timing. But it is reaching crescendo. It WILL happen. Get ready. Hang onto Jesus because His blood will be the only sure footing as we travel through the coming fire. All else is going to get burned up. But for His remnant that comes through that fire… HE HEALS. Hang on for the healing. Pray for the healing.

I believe God’s prophecy to Israel through Amos is also a word from God to US today. Just as God has historically always done before He administers justice, He is raising up prophets around the world today to warn us about what is coming. God warns us and then mercifully delays His judgment to give us time to “seek the LORD and live.”

This is a hard life. We get weary from the perpetual toil and stress. But God “promises peace to His people, His faithful servants.” (v.8) Jesus is always beckoning us closer, urging us to come home where we belong within His presence, following His guidance. Within His perfect plan is our home, where His glory dwells, where “love and faithfulness meet together,” where “righteousness and peace kiss each other.” (v.10)
