At the Last Supper, Jesus told His disciples that one of them would betray Him. This grieved them and one by one, around the table, each of them asked Jesus, “Is it I, Lord?”

Judas, last in line, asked a different question… “Surely it is not I, Rabbi?” For Judas, Jesus was not his “Lord” but only a good teacher. He had already secretly met with the chief priests and worked his deal. Judas knew that he himself was this betrayer Jesus spoke of. He wasn’t afraid to look Jesus in the eye and lie through his teeth. Judas had no humility, no reverence, no respect, no recognition that the man offering him a piece of bread was the Son of God.

How opposite the rest of them were. They loved Jesus. He WAS their Lord. They truly believed He was the Messiah. None of them had betrayed him. Yet each of them humbly questioned themselves anyway. Is it I, Lord? Am I the one sinning? Am I wrong? Am I messing up here???

One of the most important questions we can ask ourselves is this same question: Is it I, Lord?

Ask it EVERY DAY.

The day you stop asking this question is the day that it has surely become YOU.
