Many people think the Bible is filled with lies. They think the story of Jesus Christ is a fable⦠that the followers of Jesus lied about Jesus coming back to life after He was crucified.
But many of Jesusā earliest followers, including the apostles, suffered intense persecution and even death for their ongoing belief and preaching that Jesus was Lord and was risen from the dead.
Is it reasonable to think these men invented a story about Jesus? I find that difficult to believe.
Obviously people are willing to die for false religions all the time, right? But these are people who actually believe they are dying for something that is true.
What we are looking at is whether or not the stories about Jesus Christ written by these men, that they claimed were eyewitness accounts were actually true. If they had simply made it all up, they would have known they were lying. They would not have been willing to die for something that they knew was a lie.
āFor we did not follow cleverly devised tales when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty. For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, such a declaration as this was made to Him by the Majestic Glory: āThis is My beloved Son with whom I am well pleasedāā and we ourselves heard this declaration made from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.ā 2 Peter 1:16-18
