I’ve observed that most people aren’t open to new ideas outside their rigid belief system. When they encounter an idea that seemingly contradicts their beliefs, they respond as if they’ve been physically threatened. This keeps them from ever growing or improving. They stay stagnant, like a dirty algae covered pond…
The root of it is pridefulness. People like to think they already have the truth all figured out… nobody can teach them anything new… not even God.
This is the most arrogant way of thinking. The TRUTH is that we’re ALL quite stupid. Even the smartest among us is a feebleminded dolt when compared to our divine Holy Creator. How dare any of us assume to have figured it all out?
I’ve observed that often the most foolish people are also the most arrogant. Afterall it takes at least a modicum of intelligence to recognize your own stupidity!
There IS room within the Christian life to grow and change. In fact, we should ALWAYS strive for this continued growth, this process of sanctification, to become more and more like Jesus. We should consider ourselves to be in training for Paul’s marathon race of life until we draw our final breath.
We never arrive at total knowledge here. We never attain perfection. We will always see through a dark mirror with these finite human minds. May we ALL recognize this about ourselves. May we all strive to be humble…
